Mag-Safe Charging - Forget the Haters
With the newest iPhone, we finally have Mag-Safe fast-charging for the iPhone. It already existed prior, but did not have the same capability of charging from 0->50% in 30 minutes.
I've converted all of my items to Mag-Safe. I use Mag-Safe on my Mac. I use it on my iPhones. I love it.
Upon telling my other friends about my love for Mag-Safe people come out of the woodwork to criticize it.
It restricts the ability to have another port on a laptop
On an iPhone, it is another gimmick that isn't that much better than a charging pad
And so on and so forth of valid criticisms. But, I stand by a principle higher than most others for technology.
Technology is supposed to be cool
How have we become so jaded as a community that using magnets we can wave our phone over a surface and have a magic disk snap to the back of it and within the amount of time I've spent watching an episode of Rick and Morty the cybernetic augmentation that is my iPhone is charged up to last a full day of work.
That's just cool
Could it be better implemented?
Doubtless.
Would Steve Jobs personally slap the living sh*t out of the engineer who suggested it be some lame little puck we stick on our desk so the phone wobbles back and forth if you touch it.
Of course.
But, I will be the first to endorse and pray for the success of anything that makes the future feel more like the future.
I love you Mag-Safe.
