Don't Present Status Updates

Everywhere I go, I see the same issue: presented status updates. Please, please, please don't present a status update to me. Text it, Teams it, Slack it, but let me read it on my own time. We don't need a meeting for you to try and give a Shakespearean performance on why we need to optimize a process or need more resources. Just send it.

That isn't to say I don't like talking to people, quite the opposite. When meetings are dedicated to status updates, then people don't talk. You see all these highly paid people "listening" to status updates, as they actually glance at a slide and proceed to work on their laptop through the meeting.

If we are going to meet, then there should be an opportunity for argument. Not an argument in a bad way, but if we are meeting and there isn't an opportunity for us to discuss something in a way that we may disagree, then it is highly likely we don't need to meet.

Let meetings be for talking, stick updates into Teams where they belong.
